Based off of major revisions here: https://minecraft.wiki/w/Java_Edition_version_history

Core Idea: Start on full release version 1.0.0 and at the end of each month or when the Ender Dragon is defeated, update to the next major version. Once we catch up with the latest release I would try to just run the server 24/7 and maybe try to figure out some event stuff to replace the monthly updates. The server version will change if the Ender Dragon is killed or if the next month rolls around and the Ender Dragon has not been slain. The Ender Dragon can be resummoned with the end crystal things.

The following contains the schedule containing the month we have and will end up playing each update along with what I picked out as the important details of each update. Following the schedule is a small FAQ about issues or concerns with this idea.

FAQ

“But Won’t that Cause Issues with the World Generation?”

I would almost guarantee that updating will at least cause biomes to change and will very likely cause funky biome generation weirdness such as small biomes or biomes mixing or overlapping in weird ways or chunks not blending together smoothly, but frankly I don’t care and I don’t think any of that matters enough to make this unviable(It might even make the world cooler). I have some examples of this behavior from a test I did starting with 1.0 world and updating to 1.18.2:

Updated Chunk Weirdness Examples:

“I think 1 month is too slow/fast!”

You might be right. I pulled the 1 month idea out of my ass, based on wanting to give people enough time to play around and experience what is or is not in the update before moving on. Part of my calculation is that it is my impression that typically when we do a Minecraft SMP thing there is solid interest for about a month or at least a few weeks before it fizzles out. On that note, part of the idea here is that by updating every month, this will give people a reason to keep playing on the server.

“Why did you choose x.x.x specific version number?”

Because I’m focusing on 1.x major revisions and I’m just picking the highest version from that major revision that probably includes bug fixes and the most core features.

“I have more questions!”
